Upfitting the Fleet to Maximize Safety

Three types of must-have safety equipment for your work truck fleet

Upfitting the Fleet to Maximize Safety

When it comes to owning a single vehicle or managing a fleet of hundreds, safety is at the forefront of every upfitting job. Vehicles with the right safety equipment are less likely to be involved in accidents thereby reducing injuries, property damage and liability. Responsible owners and operators are charged with safeguarding the fleet and protecting their most important asset: their people. When upfitting the fleet there are basically three types of lighting and safety solutions to consider: warning systems, white lighting and reversing safety. Manage risk while keeping everyone working safely and effectively with a few simple upgrades.

Warning Systems

Work trucks and fleet vehicles operate in many environments, most of which are populated by people who may or may not be paying attention. Installing effective warning lights prevent drivers from running into parked or slow-moving pieces of equipment. These warning features enhance situational awareness in an increasingly distracted public.

ECCO’s ED3300 Safety Director™ is one warning solution to a common problem on the road today. This high-intensity warning system directs traffic approaching from behind the vehicle mitigating rear-end collisions. The operator can customize an appropriate flash pattern using the soft-touch controller. The ED3777 directional LED light supplements the Safety Director’s functionality. These compact but intense LEDs produce 180-degree coverage and they are suited for a wide variety of applications. The low-profile design and mounting options provide superior flexibility for virtually any application.

The Reflex® Minibar rounds out the package of warning lights that ensure the work truck is visible at night and during the day. The Reflex is available with permanent and temporary mounting options as well as 18 flash patterns and choice of a clear or amber lens. Its slim, compact design and powerful LED output make this solution one of ECCO’s most popular warning lights.

White Lighting

White lighting provides functional illumination where and when it is needed most. Worklights should be positioned to highlight all steps and obstacles in and around the vehicle as well as illuminate the immediate worksite. The EW2110 Series floodlight is budget friendly and has limitless mounting options that provides the right coverage for the job.

Another useful worklight, the EW3010 Focus360™, has both magnetic and permanent mounting options. This robust and motorized spotlight offers full 360-degree, continuous rotation and 135-degree tilt range. Operate it with a joystick or by remote control. The unit features a home setting that automatically returns the light to its original position upon powering off the device.

Reversing Safety

Audible alarms and camera systems can help prevent serious injuries on or near the worksite. The tried and true back-up alarm that ECCO brought to the market in the 1970s has been standard issue for decades. ECCO has improved on this reliable device with the 500 Series and EA5050 multi-frequency alarms by adding sensors that gauge ambient noise and adjust the decibels accordingly. They create a volume that is safe without contributing to noise pollution and automation eliminates the need for constant manual adjustment.

Eliminate blind spots and greatly improve overall visibility with the EC7008-WK wireless camera system. The quad view display provides excellent picture quality in lowlight conditions and captures excellent viewing angles. It includes a 7” LCD high-resolution touch screen to improve the user interface and maximize viewing quality.

Upfitting a commercial vehicle can be a stressful job but installing these three types of safety equipment provides the best coverage for both work crews and the company. ECCO is proud to serve as the safety solutions expert since 1972. We field lighting and warning products that go above and beyond industry standards to exceed expectations. See them in action here.
