Customer Testimonial: Fairway Transport and Excavation

Fairway Transport and Excavation, a transportation and construction company, operates out of Ancaster, which is situated near Hamilton in Ontario, Canada. Being in the Great Lakes region, everyone in the area is used to having heavy snowfall in the winter. One of the many challenges the company handles is clearing roads and pathways for trucks and heavy equipment.

To clear snow accumulation, Jay Fair of Fairway Transport says the company has a total of eight John Deere front end loaders. Operators often work in the dark, thanks to shorter days, making lighting critical as they clear snow. When a winter storm hits, operators are driving for 12 to 15 hours, and accumulate about 500 hours of snow-clearing activity each season. Last winter, Fairway Transport installed a pair of ECCO EW4010 Series heated snowplow LED worklights on one of the front end loaders to test the equipment.

The worklamps were mounted to the top corners of the upper portion of the front end loader’s cab. One thing Jay noticed right away was that the LED lights drew an extremely low amperage, putting little additional load on the 24-volt system. Since the different pieces of equipment at Fairway often run a number of auxiliary lights and other peripherals, that fact was a huge help. However, Jay was skeptical of the lights because the company has used plenty of other LEDs during the past several years with mixed results. The true test would be on the road.

Immediately, the front end loader operator was impressed with the EW4010 Series lights. They provided bright, even forward lighting that made seeing what he was doing in the dark during heavy snowfall easier. What was more impressive was the worklamps didn’t ice over or fog up, so stopping and cleaning the lenses was not necessary. The only time they were cleaned was when the vehicles came back from a run and were hosed down to remove salt and road grime.

Having low-maintenance, heated LED worklamps help avoid costly repairs and problems for operators while out in the field. The worklamps do an excellent job of showing the operator where they’re going, even in difficult conditions.

Thanks to the positive experience, Jay Fair says he plans to redo the lighting on all of the company’s front end loaders, and the new setup will include the EW4010 Series for forward lighting.
